چکیده

This paper ANDROMEDA, an astronomical data mediation system that enables transparent access to astronomical data servers. Transparent access is achieved by a global view that expresses requirements of community of users (e.g., astronomers) and data integration mechanisms adapted to astronomical data characteristics. Instead of providing an ad hoc mediator, ANDROMEDA can be configured for giving access to different data servers according to different user requirements (data types, content, data quality, and provenance). ANDROMEDA can be also adapted when new sources are integrated to the community or new requirements are specified.

Building the e-Science Grid in the UK: Providing a software toolkit to enable operational monitoring and Grid integration

We have, over the past eighteen months, been developing a software toolkit to enable the sites participating in the UK e-Science Grid to carry out operational monitoring of Grid resources and to facilitate the integration of the Grid. In this paper we present and discuss the design and implementation of the software tools throughout the development of the UK e-Science Grid, and comment on our e...

3D and 4D Seismic Data Integration in Static and Dynamic Reservoir Modeling: A Review

Reservoir modeling is the process of generating numerical representations of reservoir conditions and properties on the basis of geological, geophysical, and engineering data measured on the Earth’s surface or in depth at a limited number of borehole locations. Therefore, reservoir modeling requires an incorporation of the data from a variety of sources, along with an integration of knowledge a...

Toward a System Building Agenda for Data Integration

In this paper we argue that the data management community should devote far more effort to building data integration (DI) systems, in order to truly advance the field. Toward this goal, we make three contributions. First, we draw on our recent industrial experience to discuss the limitations of current DI systems. Second, we propose an agenda to build a new kind of DI systems to address these l...

Determining the extent of building destruction after an earthquake using satellite imagery and fuzzy logic (Case study of Sarpol-e-Zahab region)

Background and objective: Earthquake is one of the most destructive natural disasters. Earthquakes occur in urban areas, destroying buildings and injuring people living in them. Urban center buildings are among the features that are exposed to many hazards during an earthquake. One of the first measures taken after an earthquake is relief. Locating damaged buildings can speed up relief efforts....

Semantics for Big Data Integration and Analysis

Much of the focus on big data has been on the problem of processing very large sources. There is an equally hard problem of how to normalize, integrate, and transform the data from many sources into the format required to run large-scale analysis and visualization tools. We have previously developed an approach to semi-automatically mapping diverse sources into a shared domain ontology so that ...
